Why Is Lubbock Birth Photography So Expensive?

Lubbock Birth photography has become increasingly popular, as more and more parents are realizing the value of capturing the unique and emotional moments of childbirth!

Parents are realizing the value in capturing the unique and emotional moments of childbirth but some may be deterred by the seemingly high cost of hiring a Lubbock birth photographer. I thought it might be helpful to explore why Lubbock birth photography may be expensive, and why it's worth the investment - on a personal level.

Lubbock birth photography requires a specialized skill set that not every photographer possesses. A Lubbock birth photographer needs to be able to work in low light conditions, understand the birthing environment and be able to capture the raw emotions of the birth experience.

These skills are not easily obtained and require years of training and experience to master. But when you hire a professional birth photographer, you're investing in their expertise and their ability to capture the once-in-a-lifetime experience of bringing a new life into the world!

The Cost of Being On Call

The cost of a Lubbock birth photographer also covers our time and availability. Births are unpredictable and a birth photographer have to be available at any hour of the day or night, as babies come when they feel like it! Additionally, a typical Lubbock birth photography session can last anywhere from 6 to 24 hours. This is arguably the biggest cause of the expense of Lubbock birth photography.

The nature of Lubbock birth photography is unpredictable and as with most positions that require being on-call, there is an added cost to offset the reality of what being on call requires. And hear me say this: I love this job and being on-call is an expected and beautiful part of it! But it does require some sacrifices on my end. I plan vacations and travel around my clients birthing schedules and my on-call schedule.

Limited Availability

Also, because of being on-call for multiple weeks per client, birth photographers can only responsibly take on so many clients/month. When I was a wedding photographer, I could book as many weddings as I felt like I had the capacity for each month. Now that I’m a birth photographer, I can only book 2 clients most months to ensure that I will be available for each birth since the timing of the births are unpredictable. Less availability = less income opportunities.

Birth photography also requires specialized equipment, including high-end cameras and lenses that can handle low light situations and fast-moving action. This equipment investment is reflected in the cost of hiring a birth photographer but it's worth it to have professional-quality images that you'll treasure for a lifetime.

Why Birth Photography is Worth The Cost

So, why is birth photography worth the cost? It comes down to capturing memories, professional quality, and the unique and emotional experience of childbirth. The birth of a child is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and having high-quality photos to capture the memories of this special moment is priceless.

Birth photography allows parents to look back on the day their child was born and relive the emotions and details of the experience. When you hire a professional birth photographer, you're investing in photos that will capture these memories in the most beautiful way possible.

While smartphones and personal cameras have come a long way in recent years, they simply can’t compare to the professional quality of a skilled birth photographer. A professional birth photographer knows how to capture the perfect shot, no matter the lighting or conditions and can edit the photos to enhance their beauty and emotional impact. You'll have a set of photos that will stand the test of time and will truly reflect the special moments of your child's birth.

Finally, birth photography offers a unique and emotional experience that cannot be replicated. The birth of a child is a one-of-a-kind event, and having a photographer there to capture the experience allows you to see and experience moments that you may have missed in the blur of the birthing process. It also allows family members who were unable to attend the birth to share in the experience through the photos. You'll have a set of photos that tells the story of the birth of your child, and will become treasured family heirlooms.

Birth photography may seem like a large investment but it's worth every penny. By hiring a professional birth photographer, you're investing in expertise, time and availability, and specialized equipment to capture the most beautiful and emotional moments of your child's birth. You'll have photos that capture the memories, professional quality, and the unique experience of childbirth, all in one package. When you look back on those photos, you'll know that the investment was worth it to have those memories.

How To Make Birth Photography

Fit Into The Budget

Maybe you totally understand the value of Lubbock birth photography but still aren’t sure how to make it fit into the budget. This is something I both completely understand and also totally relate to!

This is a huge reason why I try to be as creative as necessary when it comes to payment plans. Paying $2,000 + in one payment may not feasible for you (or for myself!) but if you book your birth photographer early enough in your pregnancy, there is the opportunity to break that payment up over many months into much smaller and more manageable payments.

For example, if you book my biggest package the total cost (including taxes) is just over $2,500. If you book me early in your pregnancy and still have 8 months before your due date, we can split those payments into 8 payments. After taking 30% of the total down as a retainer fee, you’ll have $1250 left to pay. If we break that down into 8 payments, it comes out to about $160/month.

We can also get creative with this! Some clients prefer to pay larger sums every other months or 3 large sums total. I also am open to payment plans that extend beyond your due date, to break those monthly payments into even smaller amounts.

I will do whatever I can to make Lubbock birth photography accessible to my clients! If you’re considering Lubbock birth photography, inquire about my services here!
